Executive/Business Coaching
A definition of executive coaching:
A helping relationship between the client who has managerial authority and responsibility in an organisation and a coach who uses a wide variety of behavioral techniques and methods to help the client achieve a mutually identified set of goals to improve his or her performance and, consequently, to improve the effectiveness of the client's organisation within a formally defined coaching agreement.

A top executive who works better has a huge positive effect on a company. It could mean millions of pounds of extra profit. The return on executive coaching can be enormous: 'Research in the US shows that ROI on executive coaching typically falls into an impressive 600% - 1000%. Therefore, each £1 spent on coaching can generate between £6 and £10 back.' The seven steps of executive coaching by Sabine Dembkowski, Fiona Eldridge and Ian Hunter.
Executive coaching works on exactly the same principles as personal coaching, i.e. the coachee holds all the answers within themselves. The key difference is that it is financed by the organisation with whom the coachee is employed by. This often means that the organisation may decide to set the agenda but in some cases the organisation will allow the coachee the freedom to set their own agenda. Sometimes it's a mixture of the two.
The coaching relationship is very much founded upon trust and therefore confidentiality is key. Rules of confidentiality are agreed up front between all parties. What is discussed in the coaching session is not shared with the organisation unless the coachee has given permission. It's usual practice for the coach to discuss progress towards corporate goals with the organisation but it is not necessary for them to share how they got there.
Some benefits of executive coaching include:- Increased confidence
- Increased staff retention
- Improved productivity and profitability
- Greater employee commitment and engagement
- Raised employee morale
- Enhanced employee engagement
Personal Coaching
The coaching process can help you to enhance and improve many different areas of your life for example: self esteem, self confidence, relationships, communication, performance, career change etc. We are all born with a toolkit of skills and talents but many of us never fully utilise it. Coaching can help you to learn how to access, manage and make the most of that toolkit.

Coaching is a non-judgmental, non-threatening and non-directional approach to dealing with important issues in your life. You set the agenda.
Often people are unable to move forward in a certain area or issue, due to some kind of blockage, for example, a limiting belief. The coach listens to you at a very deep level and can make you become aware of any self talk you use which could be creating a self-limiting belief. By raising your awareness of it you then can start deciding what you want to do about it.
Coaching is essentially a dialogue between you and your coach, within a productive, results orientated context. It involves helping you access what you know. You may never have asked yourself these questions, but you have the answers. Your coach assists, supports and encourages you to find these answers.
Your coach can observe patterns, set the stage for new actions and then work with you to put these new, more successful actions into place. Coaching involves learning through various techniques such as listening, reflecting, asking questions and providing information. You will eventually become self-correcting and self generating (i.e. generate your own questions and answers).
The real skill of a good coach is knowing when and how to ask the right questions to help you find the answers within you. The coaching relationship is a collaborative alliance between you and your coach to establish and clarify purpose and goals and develop a plan of action to achieve these goals.
Coaching is about change and transformation and the human ability to grow, to alter maladaptive behaviours and to generate new, adaptive and successful actions. Changing old habits can be difficult and the coach can help you open up new possibilities and supports you in a sometimes difficult process of change.

With more and more of us living longer, keeping healthier and wealthier, retirement can last 20 to 30 years - the equivalent of a good part of our working lives. Nowadays, it's about renaissance and the freedom to take on those long dreamed of opportunities - more crampons than slippers!
Yet like any career or life change it can be a daunting experience, without planning and careful consideration of what's important for you....and that's where coaching comes in. Understanding your values, your purpose in life and sifting through all those dreams to the core of your new life is what a coach can help you with.

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Coaching
NLP coaching focuses on three areas that give it its name:
- Neurology - The mind and how we think
- Linguistics - How we use language and how it affects us
- Programming - How we sequence our actions to achieve our goals
An NLP coach can understand the reality of how you think and can use language very precisely to help you achieve your goals.
NLP began in the mid-1970s in America with the work of John Grinder, a professor of linguistics, and Richard Bandler, a psychologist. They began by studying excellent communicators, building models of communication skills. The methods could then be taught to others so they too could get the same results. Similarly in NLP coaching we've modeled the patterns of excellent coaches.
NLP is set of insights and skills and also studies how we:
- Structure our subjective experience
- Think about our values and beliefs
- Create our emotional states
- Build our internal world and give it meaning
What can NLP coaching bring you?
There are no limits to the range of applications for NLP or the areas in your life that can benefit. NLP doesn't focus on or offer specific skills to achieve specific results (such as learning how to be assertive for communication purposes) - rather, it provides you with the means to improve your overall effectiveness. In other words, it is an holistic approach.
What can NLP coaching bring you?
- Speed - NLP techniques work quickly
- Pragmatic approach - If what you're doing isn't working then do something else
- Attitude of fascination - Every client is unique: How do they want to do it? How can we do it better?
- Simple techniques - NLP has a number of simple techniques that are tailor-made for coaching
- Appreciation of how goals, beliefs and values interact. This is the essence of the coaching process.
- Rapport and Trust - These are prerequisites of good coaching relationships
NLP coaching can help you:
- Identify goals and outcomes and how to become highly motivated to achieve them
- Build rapport and trust with people. Our ability to build rapport and to communicate clearly, can make a huge difference in our lives. Each individual has their own unique way of being in and experiencing the world - NLP helps us to understand this. It helps us to quickly work out what makes people tick and to establish how best to communicate with them.
- Helping you to become more aware of your feelings and emotions and to learn that you are in control of them - they don't just happen to you
- Sharpening your senses - helping you to notice what is going on around you. What is working and what is not working
- Understanding why you react the way you do in certain situations
- Breaking behaviours, habits and patterns
- Conquering limiting beliefs
- Improving confidence and self-esteem
- How to try out new ways of thinking and new ways of being
- How to experiment and find out what works for you
